Wildlife, Water and Peat – A Moorland Walk

July 13, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

July is a great time to get out on to the moors, and in this walk, led by Moors for the Future Partnership, we will look for moorland wildlife and see the effects of conservation work carried out on damaged areas of the moor. Since 2003 they have been working to protect the most degraded moorland landscape in Europe, improving and enhancing the blanket bog and moorland fringe habitats. We will look at how these improvements affect wildlife, water, peat and people. Meet at 14.00 in the Windy Hill Transmitter car park (grid reference SD 98291 14168), on the A672 near junction 22 of the M62 (border between Calderdale and Rochdale). The walk will take approx. 2 hours and cover a distance of around 3 miles. Some rough terrain, so walking boots and appropriate clothes essential.
